Moving Hybrid Electric Vehicles from China to Brazil by Air

How Keylane coordinated the safety, compliance and protection behind a time-sensitive automotive shipment

Case Snapshot

Project Goal

Transport three hybrid electric vehicles from Hangzhou, China, to São Paulo, Brazil, by air while ensuring dangerous goods compliance, cargo safety and reliable delivery coordination.

Project Challenges

Hybrid electric vehicles require Class 9 dangerous goods handling, UN 3166 compliance, battery safety preparation, purpose-built securing and close alignment with airline and airport acceptance requirements.

Solution

Keylane coordinated factory pickup, vehicle inspection, electrical power disconnection, wheel securing, protective packing, documentation alignment and airport cargo handover through one operational plan.

Project Outcomes

All three vehicles were prepared and handed over for international airfreight in accordance with the required safety, documentation and cargo-protection standards.

An end-to-end automotive airfreight solution connecting Hangzhou with São Paulo via Ezhou Huahu Airport, combining dangerous goods compliance, vehicle preparation and coordinated airport handling.

Core Operational Challenges

Dangerous Goods Compliance

  • Hybrid electric vehicles classified as Class 9 dangerous goods
  • Compliance with the applicable UN 3166 classification
  • Airline-specific vehicle and battery acceptance requirements
  • Accurate documentation and cargo declaration

Vehicle acceptance requirements may vary according to the airline, route, aircraft type and handling station. Compliance therefore had to be confirmed before the vehicles reached the airport.

Vehicle Safety & Cargo Protection

Key safety requirements included:

  • Disconnecting the vehicle electrical power supply
  • Checking the battery and fuel condition
  • Removing fire extinguishers, spare fuel and other potentially flammable items
  • Securing each vehicle to a reinforced wooden base
  • Protecting the bodywork and undercarriage during handling

Multi-Party Coordination Requirements:

  • Factory pickup, warehouse preparation, airport handling and airline acceptance had to follow one synchronized operational schedule.

Our Operational Intervention

  1. Factory Pickup & Pre-Shipment Review Reviewed the vehicle specifications, cargo condition, battery information, transport requirements and preparation plan before arranging pickup in Hangzhou.
  2. Vehicle Safety & Dangerous Goods Preparation Carried out the required vehicle inspection and safety preparation under the applicable Class 9 and UN 3166 requirements. The electrical power supply was disconnected to reduce the risk of short circuits or accidental activation.
  3. Wheel Securing & Protective Packing Positioned each vehicle on a purpose-built reinforced wooden base. The wheels were firmly secured to prevent movement, while additional protective measures reduced the risk of damage during trucking, terminal handling and air transport.
  4. Documentation & Airline Requirement Alignment Coordinated the dangerous goods information, cargo declaration, packing requirements and supporting documents with the relevant handling and airfreight parties before airport delivery.
  5. Airport Handover & Departure Coordination Managed the cargo handover at Ezhou Huahu Airport and coordinated documentation alignment, handling requirements and departure readiness for the international airfreight movement to São Paulo.
